MWCOG Attends Joint State of the Villages

Last week, Metro West attended a State of the Village Breakfast hosted by Burlington, Hampshire and Pingree Grove. Each President addressed their municipality’s latest accomplishments.

President Mary Kay Wlezen announced that Burlington is celebrating its 120th year, marking a significant milestone for the community. The village has qualified for a road grant, which will help fund key infrastructure projects. Continuing their tradition of bring residents together, Burlington will host its Family Fall Fest the weekend of September 12th.

Hamphire President Mike Reid reported on several successful initiatives in the village. The My Hampshire app supports resident engagement and reporting, while an updated phone system at the Village Hall further streamlines internal communication by directing callers to the appropriate department. The new public works building has opened, housing all the public works’ equipment in one location. The ‘Safe Routes to School’ project is complete, allowing downtown residents continuous sidewalk access to Hampshire Middle School.

Pingree Grove President Amber Kubiak shared that were awarded a $600,000 OSLAD grant for park improvements which will greatly enhance the facilities and community experience at Fire Station Park. In support of Special Olympics, the Pingree Grove Police Department raised $15,000 this year. Additionally, Pingree Grove continues to advocate strongly for the town regarding local IDOT projects.

County and State representatives were also present. District 9 Board Member Jennifer Abbatacola provided a Kane County update. Senator Dave Syverson gave a briefing on issues to be address when legislators reconvene.
